Though size and growth figures are not available for this nascent market, companies like Suzuki, which is launching the Hayabusa 1300 cc bike, and Honda, which is launching the CBR 1000 RR, are anticipating huge demand. This despite the fact that German bike-maker BMW called off an arrangement, signed several years ago, with the Munjals to sell power bikes owing to negligible sales.
The Harley, meanwhile, is facing a roadblock in introducing its range of bikes here as the Indian government has refused to cut duties on the bike. The same government has, however, relaxed its emission norms on the bike and also allowed the company to set up a dealer network in the country.
Last year, media reports suggested that current leader in the performance bike segment, Bajaj Auto, was looking to buy out Ducati Motor Holding in an effort to build its own brand in the lucrative European market.

The Ducati 1098 is a 1099 cc L-twin sport bike manufactured by Ducati. It was announced on November 8, 2006 for the 2007 model year and replaces the 999. The 1098 makes a manufacturer claimed 160 horsepower, 90.4 ft-lb torque, and weighs 173kg. These figures gives the 1098 the highest torque-to-weight ratio of any production sport bike ever made.

The Yamaha YZF-R1 motorcycle, introduced in 1998, was the first significant motorcycle in the true litre class (1,000 cc) "handling arms race" between the Japanese Big Four motorcycle manufacturers (Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha). When introduced, it took the class closer to a true racing motorcycle, and increased the handling capabilities.

28 INCH OVESo, here we are after years of promoting custom British motorcycles, when much to our surprise, Triumph has a custom bike on tour with their exhibit at the 2004 International Motorcycle Show. It was invigorating to think that Triumph was starting to understand the need for factory recognition of custom motorcycles (like the Bonneville pictured above). The builder applied some cool touches, like the exposed drive sprocket, race suspension and engine mods, but ultimately, I think Triumph missed an opportunity. R FRONT END.READY TO RIDE, $80k

Rick Fairless makes it look easy to customize a vintage Triumph. So often, scrutiny of a customized 650 or Bonneville reveals the frustration we have all encountered trying to integrate all the "sourced" parts we have acquired for our build. Not so with Rick. This is the second full custom Triumph we have seen from Mr. Fairless. The amazing thing is that he does not build custom Brits on a regular basis. Instead, he draws on years and years of experience building V-Twins, and applies the same ingenuity and artistry to the infrequent custom Trumpet he creates.

The Rapom V8 motorcycle, which produces over 1000 bhp, was built by British engineer Nick Argyle. It is powered by a supercharged Dodge V-8 engine. Running on alcohol, the 1000 bhp returns just four miles per gallon, and it's mileage log usually only covers the 10 mile journey to a local drag racing strip. With that sort of power available at a twist of the wrist, the monster bike requires a super long chassis end every bit of its curb weight of 1000lbs in order to stop the bike flipping under hard acceleration.
The Mission One EV electric sports bike got a proper unveiling at this week's Technology, Entertainment, Design (TED) conference, and boy does this baby exude power. Mission Motors says the motorcycle's got an 150 MPH top speed and 100 foot-pounds of torque at any point between 0 and 6,500 RPM. That's a good deal faster than the Electric Motorsport GPR-S, which tops out at a now-paltry 100 MPH. The lithium-ion battery keeps it running for 150 miles, and charge time is targeted for under 2 Hours at 240V (8 Hours at 120V). Its stylish form factor comes from famed industrial designer Yves Behar. Yeah, we're excited, too, but here's the part where you flinch: the deathly silent super-scooter will first show up in 2010 with a 50-unit limited edition run costing $68,995 apiece. A more affordable model will be announced sometime this summer. If you've got a need for this much muted speed, be prepared to mortgage a house or two.

For Tim Cameron, the Australian designer of this bike, it was a mere ‘dream bike’ for he thought dreams were the only place where he would ride it, but as they say destiny drives us all, this bike had to become a reality. Tim Cameron’s dream were given realistic proportions by the 200mph ‘Y2K’ jet turbine-powered bike fame Christian Travert and now the experts dub

The look and stance of the 848 and 1098 were designed by the combination of race track technology, track-derived components and Ducati heritage. Their striking aerodynamic shape naturally embraces a riding position, configured by our racers and test riders for optimum speed and agility.

Well, the Milan show is just around the corner, and we've just got the first images of the new bikes we'll see there. Benelli is a name many of us thought had bit the dust big time, tripped up by typically Italian financial problems. And although there were ill-founded rumours - printed in Motor Cycle News - of a link-up with TVR, Benelli is now in the hands of a Chinese firm, Qianjiang. And it's Chinese cash that has helped produce the Tornado 1130 pictured here.

T1, which was first introduced to the public in 1998, evokes a hot-rod or musclecar image. T2 features deep fenders and a low-slung tank, which hark back to the lowered and chopped roadsters of the 1940s and ’50s. T3, with its traditional flame paint job, and T4, wearing a 9-in.-wide Goodyear Eagle drag slick, take inspiration from pro drag bikes. All four motorcycles are based on the horizontally opposed six-cylinder Honda F6 engine, which powers the current Gold Wing and Valkyrie models. This is a significant departure from the gaggle of V-twin-powered cruiser concepts from other bike makers that have shown themselves lately.
Not every new idea will make it to the factory production line,” says a Honda source. “That’s not the purpose of these concept bikes. Instead, they are designed to be extreme exercises. Over time, some of these ideas will come to fruition.” Some already have. Many features that debuted on T1 can now be seen in the design of Honda’s 2002 VTX1800C production cruiser. Elements such as the VTX’s grabrail
Honda engines are very popular amongst tuners. One reason is that there is a huge after market for Honda parts such as radiators, harness, engine mounts, etc. Basically any part that you can name there are various options available. The most popular Honda cars are the Honda Civic, Acura Integra, and Honda CRX/Del Sol. These cars were made with interchangeable parts that can be swap back and forth in between models.
Project Z.Project Green Meanie After living with the character-rich yet somewhat flawed Kawasaki Z1000 for several months, it's become to be regarded around here as an old friend. During its time with us, the Z1000 has been tested, shootout-ed, cold-started, wheelied, and commuted upon. It's even seen.

Eliminator 125Right from the start the Eliminator 125 is out to impress from its sturdy 124cm3 SOHC engine to its plush stepped seat. Belying its cylinder capacity this is a small bike with all the big bike features you need. Electric start, five speeds and front hydraulic disc brake are all serious kit. So too is the classic tank top instrument display, a cool feature on a cool little cruiser.
